The Speakers Refurbishment

This is a £1.5m project to fully refurbish and extend a grade C listed 7200sq ft community owned building in Maybole. The Speakers has been at the heart of the community of over 25 years and provides a base for numerous local clubs, and local service providers.

We were approached by the client following our involvement the Maybole Community Charrette to bid as part of a competitive tender to provide a feasibility design and report for a future refurbishment.

The newly refurbished building will provide: wheelchair access to both floors, new multi-functional bookable rooms for clubs and local service providers, accessible cafe bars and facilities on both floors, refurbished event/function suite and new external public spaces.

Studio 42 have assisted the client to develop the initial feasibility design through to a fully designed scheme in addition to supporting them in procuring capital funding from a number of sources including: Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland, and the Big Lottery Fund.

Construction is due to start on site summer 2019
