West End Primary School

We were asked to assist West End Primary School based in Elgin, Moray through Architecture & Design Scotland’s ‘test of change’ service.

The school is located in a traditional building built in 1875 comprising: nine classrooms, a Learning Support base, a large assembly hall, a canteen and a library located in an annex accessed from the main hall, supporting approximately 250 pupils.

The school and the parent fundraising group (WESA) identified the library area as a key area requiring improvement and the focus of a fundraising initiative that would benefit all pupils and improve the range of learning experience within the school, particularly in engaging pupils with reading in order to improve literacy within the school

We were asked to re-vision the existing library area and consider how it might be altered to facilitate a variety of Learning and teaching settings
